Hi, I would request you to not close the Contest before the deadline. I am doing edits on the last couple of challenges and hope that you will like my work. Also, great job on the plot! I really enjoyed reading both the stories and I can see how rewriting it would make it even more engaging.

I would like to take a moment to clarify why you're seeing the "#guaranteed" tag in so many comments. In short, if you had made this a GUARANTEED contest, that means you WILL pick a winner; some entrant WILL take the prize.

It's not that entrants feel more confident they'll win when the prize is guaranteed – indeed, that does nothing to improve their chances – but they feel more confident that their hard work will not be simply STOLEN by the contest holder.

The thought process behind the tag request you're seeing is that by dangling such a tantalizing prize ($1,000 CAD), you are really asking everyone to go all out ... for you, for the prize. Yet, by not GUARANTEEING that prize, there is nothing stopping you from pretending that NO ONE met your objectives but downloading and employing (for free) EVERYONE's best work.

We live in dark times, ye ken.

Yet, on the other hand, from your perspective as a good and decent person (hopefully), it probably makes perfect sense to set this up just as you have:

a great bounty of a prize will hopefully attract the best work, but you wouldn't want to put out that kind of cash if you don't actually end up getting anything useful from the entries.

Again, the fear is that you could take ALL of our work – good, bad and otherwise – and not pay for any of it.

There was a disgruntled entrant commenting earlier about your possibly taking all our hard work for free, and this is what he was referring to – the fact the prize is not #guaranteed.

While I am following the advice of "participate or don't, but stop complaining," I don't mind telling you, you would have received ten times the entries had this prize been guaranteed.

Good morning, good evening, and everything in between.
With New Year Eve just around the corner and the 5 remaining days of the contest left. Would like you all to start submitted your completed as soon as possible as I would like to take the remaining 5 days to decide the winner.
Again rather it being in one document or more, what’s important is you complete the challenges and respect the note’s influence in them and ensure to understand the plot. I had new entries in which the challenges was not supposed part of. For instance displaying a situation before the challenge. Each notes and challenges are placed above the passage in question usually the next paragraph or so.
Good luck and may the best writer win

    Happy New Years everyone

It is good to be reminded that an avalanche of last-minute submissions might make you feel somewhat "under the gun" to choose a winner. There is, however, something that you might not be aware of as a first-time contest holder. When the timer runs out on the contest itself, the contest holder is then provided a rather lengthy "review" period (of four weeks, if I'm not mistaken) in which they can take the time to review and compare all of the entries received.

Still, you probably have a schedule of your own you'd like to keep on pace, so I will endeavor to submit my very best at the very earliest.

      Thank you.

Please do not end this contest early. This is a lot of work that I intend to do thoroughly and professionally, and I don't want my time and efforts to be wasted due to an early cutoff time.

I plan to run this contest to the end. Take all the time you need and complete the notes and challenges placed through out both stories. Despite the changes you might have made, they are what I’ll be looking at the most in deciding the victor. If you added something of equal weight (or believe of), mark it. Take your time but do it fast.

    Dear Contest Holder,

I am here, and I am on the job. I should not require the entire 10 days that are left in the contest as of now, but you and I will both be disappointed if you close it before you see my entry.

I became increasingly excited to read the stories and find the challenges within, as this project falls squarely within my sweet-spot as an editor and copywriter – it's already written, it's very editable, and your directions were quite clear.

I may, indeed, have some questions, so I was also pleased to see you provide a way to reach you with such queries.

My only anxiety is that you've already offered a 5-star rating to an entry, and that means there is a greater possibility that you'll close the contest early. I hope that does not happen.

OK, I am off to work now!

Good morning, good evening and everything in between. Hope you all have a marvellous holiday and hoping to what the year will bring.
15 days had elapsed, giving you’ll some time to go through the stories attached to this contest. Some of you have already tuned in some of their work, of which only a few did exactly what I was hoping to see.
The purpose of this contest is to how you would wright in the editor’s challenges I’ve placed in both stories, there’re 5 in all.
What I really want to see when you submit your entries is the completion of those challenges, rather it be in one document or more. What I’m looking for is who can do them better and will have the privilege to modify both stories as the winner. I’ve already selected the polisher (the last phase before working to get it released). Whom ever could write those challenges the best wins the contest. Bonus points for doing the notes if time permits but also pay attention to those notes as some challenges are influenced by the

Eagerly awaiting the update and looking forward to seeing the story published! I read the narrative from the mindset of a scriptwriter (so I really appreciate the dialogue) and it would be amazing to pick your mind about how you envision this alternate world so we can "novelize" the composition! Details matter because the little attributes must embody how you visualize how this world comes to life. Hoping you find the perfect writer ( whether myself or anyone else). I am invested in the story :)

"The more I provide the better" I have already spent a massive amount of time on this all on the chance that you might pick my contribution and I might get some reward for my efforts - I like your story, I think your story has potential, but there is a ton of work to be done ( all that story around Editor's Note 2 - it is just one big mish-mash of characters and happenings that I simply could not make sense off) it before it goes for publication and personally I think it is much easier simply to re-write the story as a ghostwriter under your direction for an agreed fee than to do all this " Correction" work on the off chance that you might select me but yet you get to keep all my and other writers " not good enough" work for 'free'

For my sample edit which I submitted already, I edited the second document you'd attached. Now I have a clarifying question: are the documents separate books but they take place in the same world, or is one of the documents your reworking and rewriting of the first draft/other document? I'm curious to know if you'd like the winner of the contest to edit both documents, or only one of them.

And by the way I’m also working on a 3rd book which would reveal things not spoken in the first two books and it revolves around Griff.

I like the concepts you've presented in your stories. I love fantasy books and books that revolve around the type of story that yours does. I'm not sure if you've read Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, but that's the type of novel I love and I see many similarities in your work. The idea of Swordsmen being like old legends that everyone is in awe of and having them linked to their weapons is an excellent concept idea. Well done!

The last point -I make the corrections, and you choose me. Is that it? - Job Done -You pay me $1000 or is there something else I would have to do before I can get paid?

I could call upon you if there’s anything else I needed done with the story but I hadn’t thought that far ahead yet. So pretty much; make the corrections, if you win you get paid.

Out of curiosity, have you done this before? The contest bit?

is it gonna be a short story or novel? What is your target page number for the final draft? To what extent do you want the story modified? You stated that guidelines are included throughout the book, can't seem to find them. What type of audience are you targeting?

      This story is a novel.
      I don’t have a target page number.
The modification is up to you, if you could make it so it makes sense and follows through without confusion it’ll be great.
The guidelines are the main focus for the modification but are not limited to, the guidelines are placed in by the form of Notes and challenges, I’ve read through both stories and noticed discrepancies and lack of narrative and want to polish them in/out.
This storyline has cursed language, blood, and mental illness/issues. I didn’t have a target audience in mind when I was writing it but at this point (and you’re the first one to mention this) it looking more at around 18+.

      Hope this helps.

Thanks for getting back to me. I tried to contact you on Twitter but I got a message that said my message could not be sent - so we will have to work thru freelance messaging. You have not really answered my questions. Are you saying to be considered in this competition I must make all the corrections you requested, in both your stories, that is a lot of work to do in the hope that I might get something for my effort - each story is 25 / 27 000 words. I do all that work, and then you say " Sorry Doug, but I am going with NNN corrections - better luck next time. I was expecting that you would set some tests/criteria that we, the writers can do, that will not take days to do, because making all those corrections and getting your stories to flow will take days. From that test criteria, you choose a winner and that winner and only that winner makes the corrections and gets paid a $1000

Total Confusion. There are two phases to this. 1. Picking a winner. 2. The winner making the changes you want. Question How will you pick a winner? From a previous response, I see you say "Take all the time you need and complete the notes and challenges placed throughout both stories. Despite the changes you might have made, they are what I’ll be looking at the most in deciding the victor." Are you wanting me to make all the corrections in both of your stories as part of my submission to see if my submission wins? if I am the winner what will you be expecting me to do in order to get paid? If I have already made the corrections, what more do you want from me? At what point will you decide that I have done what you want, you are satisfied, and here is my 1000 dollars

      1. This is my first time using the contest. So I’m not 100% sure how it actually works but I’m winging it
      2. In my mind on how it works is you make the corrections you think is necessary for the reader to understand and it’ll flows smoothly. As mention, there are notes and challenges throughout both stories, they are the main areas I’ll be looking at near the end.
The main point of this contest is finding a best fit for the story and I figured that doing a contest would get a bunch of different people with experience in the field (I’m not a writer by trade) to make the corrections I wouldn’t be able to think of.
I roam around very often between twitter and here to see if anyone has any questions comments concerns regarding this and try help anyway I can. I’ll also send a heads up at 15 and 5 days remaining. What would that be you’ll have to wait till then

      Hope this clarifies it.
