Multimedia Player Optimization on Electron/Node.js

Our team is seeking a qualified professional to work on optimizing our multimedia player. The application runs on Raspberry Pi under Linux and is designed to play videos, display images, and provide real-time information. Current Challenges: - Animation lags: Animations slow down significantly, especially when multiple iframes are in use. - Video playback issues: Noticeable delays, particularly when playing 4K resolution videos. - System overloads: Application becomes unstable under increased load and during multitasking. What Needs to Be Done: - Conduct an in-depth analysis of the existing codebase to identify and document performance bottlenecks. - Optimize video playback and animations. - Reduce system load and eliminate performance degradation caused by multiple iframes. - Implement hardware acceleration (GPU) on Raspberry Pi to enable smooth 4K video playback. Add hardware monitoring features: - Retrieve CPU and GPU temperatures. - Retrieve GPU load levels. - Implement HDMI CEC functionality to control the connected TV (turn on/off). - Prepare detailed technical documentation of all implemented changes to facilitate future maintenance. - Mandatory Requirements for the Freelancer: - Proven experience with Electron and Node.js. - Successful track record of optimizing multimedia application performance. - In-depth knowledge of hardware acceleration tools such as ffmpeg, WebGL, or similar. - Experience with Raspberry Pi architecture, including Broadcom VideoCore. - Skills in resolving performance issues for applications on low-power hardware. - Familiarity with HDMI CEC protocol (e.g., cec-utils). Preferred Qualifications: - Expertise in handling high-resolution video (4K) and codecs like H.264 and H.265. - Experience optimizing applications for low-power devices. - Strong understanding of web optimization tools (CSS animations, WebGL). - Technical Requirements for the Deliverable: - A fully optimized application with: - Smooth 4K video playback without delays. - Stable performance under high load conditions. - Monitoring features for CPU/GPU temperatures and GPU load levels. - Properly functioning TV control via HDMI CEC. - Code that adheres to industry standards, with clear documentation and comments. - Detailed technical documentation covering all implemented changes. Work Conditions: - Type of Work: One-time project. - Timeline: To be agreed upon before starting the project. - Payment: Fixed price for the entire project, with the possibility of milestone payments (minimum of two stages: - analysis/optimization and final testing). - We reserve the right to have the deliverables reviewed by an independent technical expert before project completion and final payment.
