The objective of this project is to design and build a functioning prototype of a database system to keep track customers, purchases/sales, product, returns, orders, inventory and repair services for a retail bicycle shop. This project is to be implemented using Microsoft Access 2016 or above. Functional Requirements The prototype needs to be populated with sufficient data to demonstrate and test the following functionality: Forms 1. Add a customer 2. Identify a new product 3. Order a new product and receive the delivery of products into inventory 4. Record a sale 5. Record a return 6. Initiate and complete a service transaction – a repair or overhaul Reports 1. display a customer list 2. display a daily, weekly, monthly sales 3. display a table of all inventory of a certain product 4. display all inventory value currently on hand 5. display weekly repairs 6. Remove a customer 7. Remove a product 8. Adjust inventory You will need to create the appropriate design – clearly the usual customer information, Product information is available online if you look for bike shops (product categories range from name of manufacturers and then bike models, bike parts, bike clothes, accessories, etc. (make the necessary assumptions regarding the level of detail) Review what a sales transaction and a return transaction would look like. You can use similar cost information from online research. The entities need to designed to be relevant but not complete. Provide use cases. For questions or clarification, attend the weekly sessions or contact the instructor. Deliverables Final Deliverables Please submit the Access database file along with a written report containing the material below (not necessarily in this order) in a single .zip file. • a user manual (including any environment setup needs) • a database design document including ER diagrams and database schemas • A data dictionary • All design documents • evidence that the tables are appropriately normalised, indicating in each case which normal form was chosen and why. • Screen traces that show the creation of all database objects – including populating the tables • screen dumps of all table and query structures • printouts of test runs showing that each of the functional requirements (forms and reports) has been met. Notes: 1. The solution should be in a form that the instructor can download and execute 2. Present the material in a logical manner for the reader 3. The user manual must contain specific system information – versions, any added tools, etc.
