Overwrite the Mage_Customer_Model_Customer class to exclude first name and last name at registration without any errors

I need a developer to provide the correct method of overwriting the Mage_Customer_Model_Customer class at registration to remove the first name and last name validation fields so that they are not required.
I have attempted to overwrite the class myself, however I get an error "Cannot save the customer." once I remove the code in the validate() function in my new class that extends the core Mage_Customer_Model_Customer class.
If i comment out the validation lines in the core file it works fine with no errors. But I would like to seperate this change from the core files so i can update the site at a later date without any issues.
This is micro job which requires the freelancer to show me the correct method of editing the validation in the customer registration field of magento.
