Map of Land Use Change in the Arenal Monserrat Basin, El Salvador This project analyzes urban footprint expansion in the Arenal Monserrat basin, El Salvador, using Landsat imagery from 1992 and 2021. By comparing these images, we tracked shifts in land use, particularly the increase in urbanized areas. This assessment provides insights into urban growth patterns over nearly three decades, contributing to sustainable planning and management efforts in the region.

Spatial Analysis of Mangroves in Jiquilisco Bay, Usulután, El Salvador Jiquilisco Bay, spanning 101,782 ha, hosts a variety of ecosystems, including mangroves, coastal lagoons, and river basins. This study uses satellite imagery and spectral indices to monitor and analyze these environments. Selected Spectral Indices: NDMI: Differentiates mangroves from terrestrial vegetation using SWIR and green bands. MNDWI: Enhances water body detection, reducing land noise. SR: A vegetation index utilizing red and near-infrared bands. GCVI: Measures green biomass and chlorophyll concentration. Band Ratio: Correlates NIR and SWIR2 for soil moisture monitoring. Modeling with Google Earth Engine: Using RandomForest models, spectral indices (NDVI, MNDWI, SR, GCVI) mapped mangrove areas accurately, incorporating elevation and vegetation thresholds. Images were processed in Google Earth Engine, optimizing data interpretation for Jiquilisco Bay’s environmental health.

In this role, I was essential in updating national cartographic layers, including rivers, roads, municipalities, and departments. I integrated data from multiple sources to enhance existing maps.
