We seek an HVAC or thermal design engineer to design an air conditioning system based on fan-coil technology for an energy systems laboratory. The design must meet thermal comfort standards according to ASHRAE 55 for summer conditions. Project Details: Objective: Design a fan coil air conditioning system that ensures thermal comfort according to ASHRAE 55 standards. Scope of Work: Design Requirements: - Determine the number of air vents and their positions. - Calculate the air flow rate, temperature, and humidity level from the vents. - Define the required water mass flow rate and temperature into the fan coils. - Design the heat exchanger (liquid-to-moist air) for the fan coil system. Boundary Conditions: - The outer wall is exposed to solar radiation with an outside air temperature of 32°C. - The room floor is partially subjected to solar radiation. - All other walls are considered adiabatic. Methodology: - Conduct basic thermodynamic and thermal analysis to estimate the number of vents, air flow rate, and temperature. - Perform a detailed analysis using Ansys Icepack to refine temperature and flow conditions. - Adjust design parameters if thermal comfort conditions are not met. - Build a Simscape model of the room and fan coil system to finalize the heat exchanger design. Deliverables: - Detailed report on the number of air vents, their positions, and specifications. - Ansys Icepack simulation results and analysis. - Simscape model of the room and fan coil system. - Final design of the heat exchanger with necessary calculations and specifications. Skills Required: - Proficiency in HVAC design and thermodynamics. - Experience with Ansys Icepack for thermal analysis. - Proficiency in MATLAB Simscape for system modeling. - Knowledge of ASHRAE standards for thermal comfort. Additional Information: - The laboratory's orientation is provided in the attached presentation. - Detailed parameters affecting human thermal comfort and relevant sources are included for reference.
