I used DataTables editor to do most administration. There are several situations where I use different forms for parent and child tables. The simplest that comes to mind is articles and article categories. You click on the article categories form. Currently in table view if I want to get to articles in a particular category I have to click on a link in a row, something link and that take me to an articles page listing only articles associated with that category ID (or category name). This works but is too much hopping around.
