I've never had very good luck with automatic Fortran-to-C conversion. (What tool are you using?) But if the tool did most of the work, it shouldn't be difficult to fix the parts where it failed. Then we just run tests and compare the Fortran and the C output--fixing conversion flaws as required--until we get the same output. I do frequent work of converting Fortran to C++ for the "High Performance" (GPU) version of some simulation apps. And I've also rewritten some ancient Fortran into C++.
