I am seeking a skilled freelancer to assist in converting a printed booklet into a digital TXT format for upload to mendable.ai. The booklet comprises approximately 240 small pages, each containing around 24 lines of text and 66 characters per line. This task requires meticulous scanning, OCR (Optical Character Recognition) processing, and specific text formatting to ensure the digital version is optimized for use with mendable.ai.
Key Tasks:
Scanning and OCR Conversion: Digitally scan each page of the booklet and use OCR technology to accurately extract the text, focusing on producing a clean, searchable text output.
Text Formatting and Cleanup:
Apply special conventions for text formatting:
Italics: Represent italics by surrounding the text with single asterisks (text).
Bold: Represent bold text by surrounding it with double asterisks (text).
Headlines: For larger text, such as headlines, use a leading hash symbol (# Headline) to denote its significance.
Remove all headers, footers, and page numbers to ensure the text is free of any such elements.
Line breaks in sentences due to page width must be removed, while line breaks due to new paragraphs must be preserved.
Content Organization:
The final document should begin with the Table of Contents.
Follow the Table of Contents with each chapter formatted as one long, coherent text block.
Conclude the document with the Glossary.
Ensure all other content not specified above is removed for a streamlined final product.
Deliverables:
A single TXT file containing the digitized and formatted booklet content, ready for upload to mendable.ai. The file must be optimized for the smallest possible size without sacrificing text clarity and integrity.
Any software developed by the project assignee to handle the conversion must be delivered together with the generated text file and scanned document files.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Experience with document digitization, particularly in scanning and OCR technologies.
Proficiency in text formatting and editing for digital platforms.
Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Ability to work independently to meet project deadlines.
Previous experience with large-scale digitization projects is a plus.
