The Global Scope Research Lab ([login to view URL]) is hiring a research assistant for our projects on multinational firms’ responses to market uncertainty and the effects of external disruptions on innovation and entrepreneurship. This position is particularly suited for a PhD student interested in gaining first-hand experience in the application of computer tools in econometrics or someone interested in pursuing a doctoral program in Economics, Finance, Business, Computer Science, or a similar field. Site presence in Washington, D.C. or London is not necessary. Regular video meetings are expected. This position is under the supervision of Professor Luis Ballesteros (GW School of Business). Minimum Candidate Requirements:  Proficiency in managing and analyzing data with R or Stata. This entails good programming skills and experience with panel models.  Strong quantitative skills with coursework in econometrics and/or statistics.  Fluency and excellent communication skills in English.  Strong writing skills. Preferred Candidate Requirements:  Experience working with Python.  Familiarity with machine learning methods and natural language processing.  Knowledge of geospatial processing programs, such as ArcGIS or Tableau.  Coursework aligned with the application of computer tools to academic research. Description of Tasks: 1. Writing and running statistical models and interpreting results. 2. Cleaning and coding databases. 3. Using natural language processing for obtaining data. 4. Running machine learning algorithms. 5. Automating tasks via Python. 6. Producing visual and written reports on findings.

University of Waterloo graduate with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) along with extensive experience in statistical data analysis and data mining. Adept in conducting sampling and validation with industry standards. I happen to bring on table enthusiasm to contribute to team success through hard work, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. Key skills: - Programming: Python, SQL, R, c++, MATLAB - Data visualization - Data wrangling and data mining - Knowledge of neural network tools: Scikit-learn, Tensorflow, Keras, Pytorch Most recently I have completed a research project under the guidance of Professor Vijay Ganesh wherein I managed to improve the architecture of LogicGAN. LogicGAN (Logic-Guided Generative Adversarial Network) is class of GAN which inculcates the concept of “explainability” in the network architecture. The main contribution was to improve the evaluation matrix obtained from explainable AI system which further provides a richer feedback to generator network. It allows better governance over the learning process. Also FID score of 0.6 is achieved using modified LogicGAN which was 3.4 for original LogicGAN on a more challenging benchmark. Lower the FID score, better is the quality of images generated. These modifications were approved by professor for the upcoming research paper that will be published in arXiv. I think my experience in the field will make me a suitable candidate for the task.
