I'm looking to create cosmetic braces. I have a design idea but it would involve a custom metal piece being created (see attachments). My product idea consists of a type of U-clip that would be connected to each end of the arch wire. This clip would be just wide enough to slip down/up onto one of the molar teeth in the back. It would be ever-so-slightly bendable, to where one can expand the opening just enough to slide the clip onto the tooth. This clip would also have some sort of slit that will allow the arch wire to slide into it. This slit would be very thin, as the archwire itself is extremely thin. The slit would be tall enough to allow the arch wire to be adjusted up and down in order to center the arch wire if need be, depending on if the consumer has shorter or to taller teeth. The slit design concept is to avoid an issue that I noticed from another individual who is selling cosmetic braces in another country. I've included an attachment of that design flaw in the attachments as well. I'm able to do a lot of the assembling myself. Such as putting brackets onto the arch wire and add the ligature bands etc because these pieces are readily available and are easy to assemble. But there is no clip on the market that fits what I'm trying to accomplish. This u-clip would need to be safe (non toxic) so it can be worn in the mouth. I'm looking to have a prototype of the clips made and then get them manufactured so I can start assembling the full product and begin selling cosmetic braces. Also I'm open to getting assistance with the design of this product Idea if you believe there is a better way to design this product.
