Development of a water level monitoring and control system for commercial use. Seeking only professional candidates with direct communication skills that are available to work in a timely manner.
Indicating your competence will be the ability to demonstrate some formal education and prior practical experience as well as an understanding each of our obligations. Additional experience will also be favoured for efficient awarding of associated and non associated projects needing attention. Please be honest if you have not had much experience in one area but explain why this wont be a problem if so. Integration of both hardware and software components to create a reliable system.
Comprising of two tanks, A (underground) and B (above ground) connected to each other via pipework with an intersecting pipe from that to the street to where excess will be pumped when capacity is reached for both tanks.
Water from a catchment area is gravity fed into tank A. It is underground and inside a building and so flooding will occur if the pump does not remove it wen full during rain event. Tank B is outside and made from polyethylene.
Project Brief:
- Use real time sensor data to determine the behaviour of the system to maintain specific water levels in tank B when tank A is able to supply it.
- Controlling the state of 2x solenoid valves determining whether flow will be directed to tank B or out to street when tank A and B both full.
- Pump control: The system should be able to operate a relay to control the water flow as required via pump activation.
- User Interface and display to adjust thresholds of sensor data used to performing the logic and seperately or within that interface an ability to manually change the states of the solenoids independently as well as activate the relay and engage pump (switches are fine for this).
Suggestions:
- Manual double float switch (tilt activated) in parallel as either the the trigger when both tanks are full or a backup trigger that will activate upon sensor or failure of other component.
- Solenoids always returning to a default state to which will direct water to street.
Can send full scale CAD plans and layout of the property at your request. Plans show all pipework, and the associated conduits and cables that have been laid for the system as well as the proposed location of any hardware. It is important that any solution provided is done so by referencing the particulars of these plans as should account for all distances of wiring and hardware selection.
Components purchased and or installed:
2x DC latching solenoids
- Minimum opening/operating voltage: 6 VDC
• Maximum recommended voltage: 9 VDC
• Coil resistance: 4.8 ohms nominal
• Pulse width: 250 milliseconds
• Wire leads: 45 cm of 0.8 mm2 black/red UL-approved wire
Pump (in tank A)
Mains 240v submerged pump with attached (or removable) adjustable length float switch
- less than 10A or 2400w which is the maximum current capacity of standard wall socket.
Hardware selection:
- Sensor Types: I am open to expert recommendations in terms of the type of sensors most appropriate. I am considering Pressure sensors in combination float switch as backup as potential options.
- ESP32: or similar.
Note - Tank A will have some disturbance of the water surface during ingress of water
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in both hardware and software development, with specific experience in water level monitoring systems and sensors. A background in commercial settings will be an added advantage.
