We are seeking a talented and culturally aware freelance designer or illustrator to source or create copyright-free images and design simple game mockups for a 100-lesson language learning curriculum focused on the Kpelle language, spoken in Liberia and other parts of West Africa.
The goal is to make the lessons engaging and visually rich, using culturally appropriate imagery and games to help learners understand vocabulary, grammar, and cultural context. This project is a unique opportunity to contribute to preserving and promoting linguistic and cultural heritage.
Responsibilities:
1. Image Sourcing and Creation:
Source or design copyright-free images that depict or are inspired by West African (especially Liberian) culture, traditions, and settings.
Ensure visuals are appropriate for diverse topics, such as emotions, weather, daily activities, traditions, and idioms.
Use a mix of cartoonish and realistic styles as required by each lesson.
2. Game Mockup Design:
Create simple, interactive mockups for educational games (e.g., matching activities, fill-in-the-blank exercises, role-play scenarios).
Deliver game designs in formats like PowerPoint, Figma, or PDFs, ensuring they are engaging and user-friendly.
3. Culturally Sensitive Design:
Ensure visuals and games align with Kpelle cultural norms, values, and aesthetics.
4. Organized Delivery:
Deliver images and game mockups organized by lesson (e.g., Lesson 1–10, Lesson 11–20, etc.).
Provide all files in high-resolution formats, including editable versions (PSD, AI) and non-editable versions (PNG, JPEG).
Requirements:
Experience and Skills:
Proven experience in graphic design, illustration, or educational content creation.
Familiarity with sourcing or creating culturally relevant imagery, particularly for West African contexts.
Ability to design simple interactive games for language learning.
Technical Proficiency:
Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, Figma, or similar.
Cultural Awareness:
Strong understanding of Liberian culture or Kpelle traditions, or a willingness to research and adapt designs accordingly.
Communication Skills:
Ability to meet deadlines, take feedback constructively, and communicate progress effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working on language learning or educational projects.
Knowledge of Kpelle culture and traditions is a strong plus.
Deliverables:
Images: 5–10 culturally relevant images per lesson (total lessons: 100).
Games: Mockups for interactive educational games for each lesson.
Organization: Deliverables must be well-labeled and grouped by lesson sets (e.g., Lessons 1–10, Lessons 11–20, etc.).
Payment:
Budget: Competitive and negotiable based on experience and deliverables.
Payment will be made in milestones, based on lesson sets (e.g., Lessons 1–10, Lessons 11–20).
