The study investigates the potential neuroprotective properties of Dantrolene (DNT) in treating traumatic brain injury (TBI) in rats. Results show DNT inhibits mitochondria-mediated apoptosis, reduces oxidative stress, reverses neurobehavioural impairments, and alleviates neuroinflammation by modulating the NF-κβ/Akt signaling pathway, suggesting a novel application of DNT.

The NLRP3 inflammasome, a part of the immune response, has been linked to neurodegenerative diseases like TBI. Recent research suggests that NLRP3 inhibitors can improve cognition and motor function in TBI patients. However, none have been effective in human trials. This review emphasizes the importance of evaluating promising therapeutic candidates for TBI management.
