Main Goal of the Project:

This project focuses on simulating a smart traffic management system using OMNeT++ and Veins. The goal is to measure data transmission and network latency in a city-wide system by examining the role of Roadside Units (RSUs) and potentially incorporating a server to help manage data.

The key challenge is balancing latency reduction with RSU costs. While more RSUs lower latency, they are expensive to deploy. This project aims to optimize the number of RSUs while maintaining efficient traffic management.

Key Objectives:

Measure network latency and data transmission efficiency.

Assess the impact of using 1 to 4 RSUs on performance.

Explore using a server to offload RSU tasks.

Perform a Pareto analysis on the trade-offs between the number of RSUs, vehicles, and emergency vehicles.

This project is for personal development and the exploration of simulation technologies. Certain aspects may evolve as new challenges arise.

What the Freelancer Needs to Do:

The freelancer will implement and deliver three simulation scenarios, exploring how RSUs, vehicles, servers, and emergency vehicles interact. The aim is to find the balance between performance (latency) and cost.

Scenario 1: Basic Traffic Management

Simulate V2I communication, with vehicles sending data to RSUs. A server may offload processing tasks.

Key Metrics: Latency, data flow, RSU vs. server efficiency.

Scenario 2: Malfunctioning Equipment (Broken RSU/Camera)

Simulate a malfunctioning RSU or camera and how the system adapts.

Key Metrics: Fault tolerance, latency, data transmission with fewer RSUs.

Scenario 3: Vehicle Accident and Emergency Response

Simulate an accident and how emergency vehicles are prioritized.

Key Metrics: Emergency response time, latency, traffic congestion.

Deliverables:

Step-by-step implementation with detailed documentation.

Performance evaluation for each scenario (latency, RSU utilization, fault tolerance).

Pareto analysis on the impact of varying RSUs, vehicles, and emergency vehicles.
