The Foundation is currently looking for a passionate and dedicated Copywriter/Editor to join our team at Switzerland for UNHCR. This position plays a pivotal role in raising awareness about refugees in Switzerland and Liechtenstein and supporting fundraising efforts within the Communications and Individual Giving Units of Switzerland for UNHCR.
ROLE
Within a growing team, this position reports and is under the responsibility of the Communications Lead.
We are seeking a dynamic, versatile and proactive team player, with a strong interest in a strong non-profit brand and refugee/humanitarian issues.
In this role, you will:
• Write compelling and persuasive content in German and/or in English and manage translations and editing in the other languages for various platforms.
• Develop messages that effectively communicate our mission, values, and impact to current and target audiences.
• Create both long-form and short-form content for websites, emails, reports, and print mailings tailored to diverse audiences in Switzerland.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Write and edit SEO-friendly and informative copy for website pages, including news articles and landing pages.
• Produce engaging, action-oriented newsletters and fundraising content.
• Develop and refine impactful reports and brochures that resonate with current and target audiences.
• Conduct thorough research to ensure all content is accurate, relevant, and tailored to audience/donor’s needs.
• Work collaboratively with other units across the organization to provide support with copywriting and editing tasks.
PROFILE
Experience
• Proven work experience as a Copywriter/Editor or in a similar role.
• Experience working for an international non-profit agency or organization is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt content for diverse platforms and audiences.
Education
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
Skills and Attributes
• Ability to use initiative, prioritize, multi-task, and proven ability to meet deadlines
• Good analytical skills
• Well organized and structured
• Capacity to work autonomously as well as a team player
• Capacity to interact with internal and external stakeholders
• Content types: experience of writing website copy, newsletters, fundraising appeals, impact reports, and brochures.
• Research skills: ability to conduct research and adapt content for different audiences.
• Cultural sensitivity: understanding of the Swiss market, local culture, and language preferences.
• SEO knowledge: familiarity with SEO best practices.
• Attention to detail: high accuracy and quality in writing, editing and proofreading.
• Humanitarian/NGO Experience: proven track record in writing for NGOs or humanitarian organizations.
• Fluency in Languages:
o Native or fluency in German (Swiss German is an asset).
o Native or fluency in English with excellent writing and editing skills.
o Knowledge of French is an asset.
