I'm in need of a structural engineer or similar professional to determine whether my home's roof can handle heavier replacement tiles. The current roof is built with Cal-Shake tiles and I plan to switch to heavier ones. Key Requirements: - Assess the load-bearing capacity of the existing roof structure. - Evaluate the additional weight from plywood, underlayment, and new tiles. - Provide insights on whether an onsite inspection is necessary. - Use of both digital tools and manual calculations for the analysis is acceptable. The house was built in 1968 and unfortunately, there are no building plans available. The roof is currently supported by 1” x 6” horizontal wood planks attached to fink trusses made of construction grade Douglas Fir 2 x 4 with 1500-F. I have included a sketch of the layout and elevation for reference. I also have recent photos of the existing structure that can be shared.
