My WordPress site hosted on a Synology NAS is experiencing performance issues. When the site is configured with an internal address (url and home in wp-options) it works perfectly and we can access the dashboard quickly and without issues. When we switch the website to using an external address then we have issues. We have set our firewall to NAT the external address to the NAS and this works fine. The website loads quickly and performs well from both inside and outside the network, so we have discounted issues with the firewall/NAT. However the dashboard is extremely slow, both when accessed via an external IP address and when accessed from an external address - two or three minutes to connect and two or three minutes to react to each mouse click once connected. Please only respond if you have experience of this issue. We also have a second, possibly related, issue. Although our wordpress theme has installed fine, we have a warning error message in the dashboard (whether we are using an internal or external address for the site) that says "Unable to read [login to view URL] settings file. Please try to add define('FS_METHOD','direct'); to your [login to view URL] file." Wew have already added the code to wp-config but this hasn't solved the problem. The [login to view URL] has privileges set to everyone/full control.
