NFL Comeback Player of the Year odds: Aaron Rodgers favored; Sam Darnold surges

Updated Aug. 15, 2024 4:06 p.m. ET

After injuries caused some of the NFL's most prolific quarterbacks to miss most of the 2023 season, the top of the Comeback Player of the Year odds market is filled with talent.

And there's a player whose odds have skyrocketed up the board recently.

Let's check out the early odds to win the award via DraftKings Sportsbook as of August 15.

2024 Comeback Player of the Year Odds:

Aaron Rodgers, Jets: +140 (bet $10 to win $24 total)
Joe Burrow, Bengals: +300 (bet $10 to win $40 total)
Kirk Cousins, Falcons: +500 (bet $10 to win $60 total)
Anthony Richardson, Colts: +650 (bet $10 to win $75 total)
Nick Chubb, Browns: +900 (bet $10 to win $100 total)
Sam Darnold, Vikings: +1200 (bet $10 to win $130 total)
Daniel Jones, Giants: +1600 (bet $10 to win $170 total)

After landing Rodgers prior to last season, expectations were set at an all-time high for the New York Jets in 2023. However, four snaps into the season opener against the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium, the star quarterback ruptured his Achilles tendon and missed the remainder of the season.

The Jets finished the season 7-10, mostly behind their stellar defense that only allowed 20.9 points per game in 2023.

What are the expectations for Aaron Rodgers and the Jets this season?

In Rodgers' last full season with the Green Bay Packers, he had a passer rating of 91.1 and threw for 3,695 yards and 26 touchdowns.

While oddsmakers are high on Rodgers and the Jets, FOX Sports' Nick Wright isn't.

"The Jets don't have elite weapons, they have one great receiver ... and they don't have an elite quarterback," Wright said on a recent episode of "First Things First."

"They have a quarterback who, at age 38, was league average across the board (in 2022). He had the worst season he had in 12 years and then tore his Achilles. He might get back to that level, but that level is not good enough."

What does J.J. McCarthy's season-ending injury mean for the Minnesota Vikings?

After Rodgers, there are some other big quarterback names on the CPOY odds list.

There's Cincinnati's Joe Burrow at +300 and Atlanta's Kirk Cousins at +500.

But a QB whose name has surged up the board is Sam Darnold, Minnesota's presumed Week 1 starter.

Darnold's CPOY odds at DraftKings moved all the way to +1200 from +3000 after rookie QB J.J. McCarthy went down with a season-ending injury that required surgery.

While the McCarthy injury is unfortunate, it gave Darnold a clearer path forward to take over as the Vikings' starter and catapulted him into the Comeback Player of the Year conversation for the 2024 NFL season.
