2 separate stabbings raise questions about safety on Metro transit system

Two people were stabbed in separate incidents across Los Angeles Monday night, raising questions once again about whether it’s safe to ride on the Metro transit system

The first stabbing happened around 7 p.m. on the Metro Line 180 bus near Los Feliz Road and S. Central Avenue in Glendale.  The preliminary investigation reveals three teenage suspects assaulted a teenage passenger, with the possible intent of stealing his backpack.

When the bus operator stopped the bus, investigators said four teens got off the bus where the fight continued on the street and two of four people were stabbed.

The two teens with stab wounds were taken to area hospitals for injuries considered non-life-threatening. Meanwhile, two other male juveniles were arrested at the scene, authorities said.

About an hour later, officials said another victim was stabbed at the C Line train station at Vermont/Athens in South LA inside an elevator.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:

Investigators said the victim, believed to have been a passenger, was stabbed by a man in the arm.

After the stabbing, the suspect took off running and boarded a train toward Hawthorne. It’s unclear if that suspect was ever detained.

SUGGESTED:

The woman was taken to an area hospital and there’s been no update on her condition.

The investigations are ongoing.
