Man surrenders after barricading inside Glendale apartment

A man who allegedly attacked another man with a baseball bat then barricaded himself inside a Glendale apartment for hours before surrendering to authorities is in custody Thursday.

Officers responded to the apartment complex in the 1800 block of Vassar Street around 1 a.m. after someone reported he was assaulted by another man with a bat, according to the Glendale Police Department.

At the scene, officers contacted the victim, who was taken to the hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. 

The suspect, a man in his 30s, was reportedly armed with a knife. A standoff ensued between him and the authorities. Residents in the apartment building were evacuated.

Officers breached the door of the apartment around 8:50 a.m. and the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody, officials said. His identity was not released. 

No other injuries were reported.
