Man arrested, charged for killing 2 people in South Austin crash: APD

AUSTIN, Texas - Two people are dead after a motorcycle and vehicle collided in South Austin early Sunday.

Austin police said on Dec. 18, around 2:40 a.m., officers responded to a crash between a pick-up truck and a motorcycle in the 500 block of E. Ben White Boulevard SVRD.

The driver of the truck, 51-year-old Roberto Rangel, failed to yield right of way while exiting a parking lot. As a result, a motorcyclist, Mark Narvaez, crashed into Rangel. Narvaez and a passenger on the motorcycle with him died on the scene. 

Police arrested Rangel and charged him with two counts of intoxication manslaughter. 

Robert Rangel, 51, was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter.

This incident is being investigated as Austin's 110th fatal crash of 2022, resulting in 116 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2021, there were 108 fatal crashes resulting in 117 deaths.
