A 35-year-old Deland man is dead after his pickup truck was hit head-on by a dump truck in Lake County on Friday morning, troopers said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 7:15 a.m. on State Road 44 and Misty Lane in Deland.

Troopers said the dump truck driver who was traveling eastbound on SR-44, swerved into the westbound lane to avoid colliding with stopped traffic ahead.

As a result, FHP said he crashed into the pickup truck head-on. The pickup truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The dump truck driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Editor's Note: This article has been updated to reflect that the crash involved a pickup truck and a dump truck only, not a third vehicle. Upon further investigation, the Florida Highway Patrol learned the third vehicle was involved in an unrelated hit-and-run crash.
