Thousands of bikers head to Downtown Leesburg for BikeFest 2022

BikeFest in Downtown Leesburg returned to its traditional spring timeframe, bringing thousands of people, motorcycles, and Harley's to the area.

"This is exceeding our expectations. We are so happy. We love seeing these people out here," said Joanie Smalley, the main street executive director with Leesburg Partnership, the association that puts on the event.

The event traditionally includes plenty of bikes, vendors, music, and food. This year, the event was reduced to one day compared to its traditional weekend festivities.

"It’s been at least three years since I've been out here, so it’s good to be out here and see everyone having fun, coming together, everyone being respectful," one person attending the event said.

"Everyone rides different bikes, but we all share the same passion. Riding with family, riding with friends, riding to different locations," said another.

It also serves as a reminder for everyone on the road to watch out for motorcycle riders and passengers.

"What I told my kids today, ‘always look twice,’" said Smalley. "A motorcycle isn’t as big as a car so always check. Check twice and just be alert."
