Driver in custody after rollover crash on I-5 in SeaTac

Troopers are investigating a rollover crash Thursday morning that blocked all lanes of northbound I-5 in SeaTac.

At about 3 a.m., the Washington State Department of Transportation warned commuters that a major crash closed all lanes at South 188th Street.

Lanes reopened at about 8 a.m. but backups were estimated at about 15 miles, with delays on State Route 18 and State Route 167.

Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Rick Johnson said the crash involved two vehicles, and the causing driver struck the other vehicle from behind at a high rate of speed.

WSP posted a video of the crash, which showed a Kia speeding and swerving through traffic before colliding into the back of a Toyota Tacoma.

The crash caused the Toyota to roll, hospitalizing the driver with facial injuries. WSP says the driver is in stable condition.

The 19-year-old causing driver was arrested for vehicular assault, as WSP says he showed signs of impairment.
