Murder-suicide suspected cause for I-5 shut down in Everett, WA

On Sunday afternoon, motorists resorted to turning around on Interstate 5 near 77th Street when police abruptly shut down all northbound lanes in the Everett area.

Now, police confirm two men are dead and one woman is in the hospital with gunshot wounds. Investigators described a murder-suicide scene on West Casino Road on September 22.

Witnesses to the shooting gave officers a description of the shooter's car. This is when they say their officers began a pursuit. The incoming closure would soon cause traffic backups in excess of three miles.

Police tracked down the shooting suspect. They say they heard gunshots when the suspect crashed on I-5. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Everett Police.

Law enforcement officials say that partial closures of I-5 will remain as they continue their investigation Sunday evening, urging drivers heading north to find alternate routes and expect delays.

WSDOT officials had cleared the scene and lanes reopened at about 9 p.m.
