EVERETT, Wash. - On Sunday afternoon, motorists resorted to turning around on Interstate 5 near 77th Street when police abruptly shut down all northbound lanes in the Everett area.

Witnesses to the shooting gave officers a description of the shooter's car. This is when they say their officers began a pursuit. The incoming closure would soon cause traffic backups in excess of three miles.

Police tracked down the shooting suspect. They say they heard gunshots when the suspect crashed on I-5. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Everett Police.

Law enforcement officials say that partial closures of I-5 will remain as they continue their investigation Sunday evening, urging drivers heading north to find alternate routes and expect delays.
