2 people, cat jump into water to escape boat fire in Tacoma

A boat fire in Tacoma’s Commencement Bay forced two people to jump into the water with their cat to escape the flames.

Fire officials reported the boat fire a little before 9:30 a.m. Thursday. A large plume of smoke could be seen coming from the middle of the bay.

Two people aboard the boat were forced to jump into the water with their cat, and Tacoma Police came in to pull them to safety.

Firefighters extinguished the flames around 10:30 a.m., and no one was injured in the incident.

The Tacoma Fire Department is still investigating what caused the fire to break out.
