Green Energy Provider Converges OT and IT Security through Platform Approach
Download Case StudyBased in South Tyrol, Italy, Alperia is a green energy provider. Alperia decided to bring its operational technology (OT) network in-house and required a network solution that could increase security while centralizing and simplifying management tasks. Alperia also wanted to increase cloud adoption and drive IT/OT convergence without increasing its cybersecurity risk.
The utility provider put in place FortiGate Rugged Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) for OT network segmentation, with FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer providing centralized management, logging, analytics, and reporting. Meanwhile, The Fortinet Security Fabric protects the expanding digital attack surface of hybrid and converged OT/IT networks—including in the cloud—enabling adaptive, self-healing security and automated protection for all users, devices, data, and applications. As a result of the hybrid mesh firewall approach, the company has been able to accelerate digital innovation while increasing the security of its networks and data.
“As we expand our use of Fortinet products, the true value of the Fortinet Security Fabric is becoming ever more apparent. Each individual solution does its job well, but when they come together, you end up with something even more powerful and intelligent than the sum of its parts.”
– Sandro Moretti, Head of Networking and Infrastructure, Alperia
Enhanced security through secure zoning of the OT network
Increased overall visibility and simplified administration through a hybrid mesh firewall approach
Reduced operating expenses while improving the security, reliability, and efficiency of the network
Fortinet’s product line, software, and support—combined with SkyHelm’s skills, knowledge, expertise, and services—provide us with a great security benefit ensuring critical electric infrastructure is protected, monitored, and maintained in an efficient and cost-effective manner.”
- Shelby Vance, IT Director, Houston County Electric Cooperative
I have long thought it makes more sense to have an integrated stack where different components work seamlessly together, creating a proactive and automated security posture, and it is great to see this approach reflected in Fortinet’s Security Fabric.”
