The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will be presented on Sunday, September 15, and host hotel The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles is gearing up for a busy weekend full of VIP guests.

Since my fellow TV fanatic BFF treated me to the hotel’s luxurious Red Carpet Moment package over the summer, both of us now feel deeply invested in the festivities and are wondering how similar our experience was to that of the celebs who will be coming in for the show.

We’ve fantasized over who will be staying in our executive suite (Jeremy Allen White?) and whether Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon will be lying on the same chairs we lounged in at the spa, dishing just like we did. Although I knew the hotel couldn’t divulge any of that information, I reached out to Mariana Sanchez, director of guest services for The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles, to get some juicy details about what an awards show weekend looks like for the hotel.

I was curious about what specific requests VIP guests make, what they order from room service, what spa treatments they prefer. Basically, I wanted to know if the stars really are just like us.

“During awards show weekends, the most popular beverage request is not champagne—it’s energy drinks, specifically Red Bull,” said Sanchez. “Other times, a celebrity may request specific items such as a smoothie from Erewhon, specialty supplements or a certain tea brand to be placed in-room upon arrival. We had one international VIP request In-N-Out delivery for their entourage—they had never had it before and wanted to try it. We made that request happen in 20 minutes.”

According to Sanchez, “For our team, it’s not so much about the specialty of the item requested but our timing to deliver it. On awards day, celebrity requests are timely assistance with bow ties and alterations to shoes, dresses, bags and cuff links for their red carpet moment. Ultimately, stars enjoy and need help with the same experiences as us.”

Here are some of the fun facts Sanchez shared with me:

Spa

● On an award show day, the spa will typically handle around 150 appointments, mostly hair, make-up and nails.

● The most popular treatment the day prior to an award show is the classic Relaxation massage.

● The classic nude and red shades are always popular for nails on award weekends, but the hotel gets more requests for nail embellishments—sequins and sparkles—during these weekends.

Housekeeping

● On award show weekends, the hotel can receive up to 250 requests to press or steam garments—most of these requests coming overnight or early morning before the show.

● To accommodate the surge of requests, the hotel brings extra pressing machines onsite (a total of 4 pressers), and sets up a spotting station to remove stains.

● Occasionally, the hotel receives a request for last-minute alterations, however most are handled by the individual guests’ stylist.

Accommodations

● Most popular requests for rooms include a lighted makeup mirror and director’s chair, clothing rack and extra hangers, full length mirrors and humidifiers.

In-Room Dining

● While champagne is great for toasting, the most popular beverage request for any award show weekend is Red Bull (energy drinks).

● The most popular breakfast on award show morning is fresh fruit or an egg white omelet.

● In-room dining will deliver upwards of 200 bottles of champagne during award show night.

Concierge

● The most frequent request to the hotel concierge on an award show night is assistance with a bow tie.

● The majority of the Ritz-Carlton concierge can tie a classic bow tie knot. Concierge also keep a stack of printed step-by-step bow tie instructions should a guest want to create the knot on their own.

● Other popular award show requests include last-minute requests to fix broken shoes, dress and bag alterations and hair/makeup appointments.

● The concierge team keeps a supply of cufflinks, collar stays and sewing kits on hand. On average, the team will distribute three to four pairs of cuff links during an award show night.

Security

● On award show days, the hotel security team handles up to 30 requests for VIP escorts—where a hotel security officer and/or manager personally escorts a VIP from their room to a special pick-up area for their car transfer to the red carpet.

Logistics

● The hotel is steps from the awards show and after-party venues, and most non-famous award show attendees choose to just walk over. VIP guests will typically have car or golf cart transport for a pre-arranged red carpet arrival time.

● The Emmy Awards and BET Awards take place in Peacock Theater, while the Grammy Awards take place in Crypto.com Arena. Additional award shows that have regularly used L.A. Live as home base in the past include the American Music Awards and the ESPYs.

● Emmy Award pick-up takes place in the hotel ballrooms. The statue given to Emmy winners on stage is a prop. After giving their thank-you speech, the Emmy winner is escorted to the hotel ballroom to sign for their actual statue. They can then return to their seat in the theater.

If you want to experience The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles like an Emmy nominee, the Red Carpet Moment package will be available through October 31, 2024.
