Greg Watson
Chief of Staff
Greg joined Commissioner Carr's office in 2021 as a Policy Advisor and is now serving as Carr’s Chief of Staff. Before coming to the FCC, Greg was an advisor to U.S. CTO Michael Kratsios in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy where he helped advance numerous 5G and rural broadband initiatives during the Trump Administration. Before OSTP, Greg was on Capitol Hill, starting at the Energy and Commerce Committee under Chairman Walden and later working for then-House Majority Whip Steve Scalise. Greg holds undergraduate degrees in history and political science from East Carolina University.
Danielle Thumann
Legal Advisor
Danielle rejoined the Carr Office in August 2024, after working in the private sector on government relations matters for a nationwide telecommunications infrastructure provider. She previously served as Legal Advisor in the Carr Office from March 2021 until July 2023. Before that, she worked as a communications attorney in the Washington, D.C. office of Wilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP, focusing on a wide range of regulatory, policy, and transactional issues, with a special emphasis on infrastructure, public safety, and spectrum policy. After attending the University of Virginia for her undergraduate degree, Danielle earned her J.D. cum laude from the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law where she was Associate Editor of the Catholic University Law Review. She also earned a certificate from the Columbus School of Law’s Law & Technology Institute.
Arpan A. Sura
Legal Advisor
Arpan previously served as Senior Counsel to the Chief of the FCC's Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, where he led key initiatives on spectrum policy, emerging technologies, and infrastructure. Before that, Arpan practiced at Hogan Lovells, Sprint, and Arnold & Porter, where he handled regulatory and litigation matters for telecom and tech clients. Arpan graduated from William & Mary Law School and served on the Law Review. He holds degrees in computer science, philosophy, and government from the University of Texas at Austin.
Drema Johnson
Confidential Assistant
Ms. Johnson is responsible for managing administrative operations, schedule and travel arrangements for Commissioner Carr. Ms. Johnson has held several positions at the FCC. She served initially as the Confidential Assistant to then FCC Chairman William Kennard. Most recently, Ms. Johnson served in the Office of Commissioner Mignon Clyburn as Confidential Assistant and Deputy Chief of Staff. Before joining the agency, Ms. Johnson served as Project Director for the Jamestown 400th Commemoration Commission. She also worked as Special Assistant to former Speaker of the House Thomas Foley.
Deanne Erwin
Staff Assistant
Ms. Erwin assists Mr. Watson, Ms. Garry, and Mr. Sura. For the past eight years, she has served as the staff assistant to the office of Commissioner Pai and then as an executive assistant in the office of Chairman Pai. Previously, she was the assistant for William Lake, Chief of the Media Bureau. Ms. Erwin began her career at the Commission in 2000.
