EMA joins EU Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare
EMA has become an associate of the EU Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare, established to help control infectious diseases of both terrestrial and aquatic animals. This partnership also aims to support the global One Health initiative. In this capacity, EMA will strengthen links between research and EU medicines regulation through communication and engagement with researchers and other stakeholders.
Promoting a One Health approach in Europe
EMA and other scientific EU agencies responsible for human, animal health and environmental protection have issued a joint statement on promoting a joined-up One Health agenda in Europe. They identify four priority areas for action.
EMA recommendations to reduce risks to humans and animals from exposure to N-methyl pyrrolidone in veterinary medicines
EMA’s Committee for Veterinary Medicinal Products (CVMP) recommended measures addressing the inconsistencies in the product information of medicines containing the excipient N-methyl pyrrolidone (NMP), which are marketed in the European Union (EU). NMP can cause birth defects in children of women who handle NMP-containing medicines during pregnancy, and in the offspring of animals given these medicines
Stay safe when buying veterinary medicines online
From 28 January 2022, you can check if an online retailer is authorised to sell veterinary medicines in the EU / EEA by looking for the official logo on the retailer's website. Clicking on the logo should open the national register where the retailer is established and registered. Do not continue with your purchase if the retailer is not on the national register.
