Laws

The EEOC is charged by Congress with enforcing several federal workplace equal employment opportunity laws prohibiting discrimination. In addition, certain federal laws address how the EEOC and other federal agencies function. Finally, there are many other laws addressing relevant workplace legal protections for which EEOC is not the primary enforcement agency or does not have an enforcement role. 

These laws are presented in four groups, with each law listed by its original issuance date, in chronological order. Many have been changed or “amended” since they were first enacted. The four groups of laws are:
