After your meal, wander in the spices souk and discover local Essaouira handcrafts. This is the perfect place to buy souvenirs and drink tasty mint tea.

Essaouira ramparts

You’ll find the historical centre in the heart of Essaouira’s medina (old town), listed as UNESCO World Heritage. Once known as Mogador, from the Phoenician “Midgol” meaning “little fortress”, the ramparts are an absolute must-see while you’re staying in Essaouira.

The ramparts, inspired by the ones in the French town Saint-Malo, were built to defend the city that was once one of the main commercial harbors of the country. Take a stroll on the Scala to enjoy a breathtaking view over the port and the charming moored blue fishing boats.
