Filled with multi-color adobe homes and commercial buildings from the 19th century, the area is scattered with periwinkle walls. Take your camera and have a nice stroll through the city’s Turquoise Trail, – a turquoise-coloured strip on the sidewalk will keep you on your track – a 2.5 miles self guided walking trail where you can explore the Barrio Viejo and other historic Tucson sites, like the St. Augustine Cathedral, the Pima County Courthouse or the Fox Tucson Theatre.

7. Antelope Canyon, Arizona

What about a combo journey into Pantone colour of the year and in the centre of the earth? On the opposite side of Arizona from Tucson is the Antelope Canyon. This canyon is part of the Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park, near Page, and it’s an incredibly unique natural wonder that draws tourists from all over the world to this area. It is a slot canyon formed over millions of years by the erosion of water rushing through the sandstone. 

Once you find yourself at the bottom of the canyon, take a look around and admire the colours of the earth: you’ll find the Very Peri hues into the shaded sections of the canyon, which stand in stark contrast to the orange, red and yellow coloured rock. If your passion is photography, you’re in the right place: the Antelope is the most-photographed slot canyon in the American southwest! 8. Kawachi Wisteria Garden, Japan

The most gorgeous garden features are two, roughly 100 metres long tunnels made of wisteria trees, that are perfect for surrounding yourself with different Very Peri hues, ranging from white to dark purple. 

9. Johannesburg, South Africa

Jacaranda is another flower that gives off periwinkle vibes and can be spotted all over the world, from Australia and Southern California to Spain. But among the most beautiful are South Africa’s jacaranda trees, which usually are in full bloom between September and November.

When we see pictures of high sand dunes we immediately think of the Sahara Desert, often forgetting that there are many other sandy deserts scattered around the world. At the foot of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains in Colorado, there is one that perfectly fits into our list: it’s the Great Sand Dunes National Park. 

At dusk, the sand dunes burst in dazzling kaleidoscope patterns of colours, including periwinkle shades. The most booked destinations for 2021

We analysed all bookings done throughout the year 2020 for travel in 2021 and the results are in: Lisbon tops the chart as the most preferred destination for travellers this year. Istanbul takes second place, while Fort de France, in Martinique takes the third position. Besides Fort de France, only one other destination – Bangkok – is located outside Europe in the top 10. Most Europeans prefer nearby destinations, on the same continent, as the best places to travel in 2021. 

Long-haul holidays decreased to amount to just 20% of our customers’ top 10 preferences, a significant decrease from bookings analysed for 2020, in which 9 out of 10 destinations were long-haul, with Australia topping the charts.

Travel habits have definitely changed over the past year, with most travellers playing it safe and choosing to travel close to home, rather than venture out to other continents on long-haul journeys. 

Future travel trends once consumer confidence returns

We have also analysed the destinations our travellers search for in the period directly after the positive news on vaccine development, in early November 2020. 

After the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine announcement, our European consumers immediately started searching for long-haul destinations such as Dubai, New York or Tokyo. We put together another list of the top 10 destinations searched, and in this new list only 3 destinations are within Europe, the remaining 7 span the world from Asia to North America and the Middle East. This important shift is an indication of the places consumers will focus their future travels on as confidence continues to return to the global market.

How long will the travels be in 2021

When looking at the duration of the trips our customers booked for 2021, over a third (35%) booked for trips of two weeks or more. And another 32% of bookings for 2021 are for trips of 7-13 days. This is an important increase from the 22% of travellers who took two-week holidays in 2020. The data from our consumers speaks for all of us, showing that we are all ready to travel more and further throughout this year, and the list above constitutes our consumers’ choice for the best places to travel in 2021.

Where we booked our travel for 2021 

In our study, we also noticed a change in the device on which the trips for 2021 were booked. 57% of our consumers booked on mobile – up from 45% last year, despite commuting less, which was previously a factor for mobile purchases.

To compile the top list of destinations to travel in 2021, we collected internal booking data from our 17+ million customers, across all brands of the eDreams ODIGEO group, throughout the year 2020 (until the end of November) for travel dates anytime in 2021. 

To compile the top list of most searched for destinations, we looked at search data between 9th and 22nd of November 2020, the two weeks following the announcement of the covid-19 vaccine positive development.

All I want is a bit of peace and quiet

When can I celebrate?

Birthdays, engagements and graduations that have gone uncelebrated over the past few months are raring to be celebrated. Better late than never, as they say! Is there a better place than being surrounded by friends and family to ring in happy times? Although we could recommend countless places to enjoy a celebratory weekend, our favourite destination in this case would have to be home, sweet, home!

Tip! This bay was formed as a result of the remains of a volcanic crater where violent explosions occurred thousands of years ago. Due to erosion the crater was joined by the ocean and the sea floor was covered with coral over the years.

It also uses the red and yellow flag as symbols of China.
