Humanitarian aid is about delivering a tailored emergency response to save and preserve life, prevent and alleviate human suffering, and maintain human dignity. It is about reaching vulnerable populations in line with the principles of impartiality, neutrality, humanity and independence. The EU also operates in the area of civil protection to support, coordinate and supplement the action of Member States. ​
