The Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania, the European Court of Auditors, and the Lithuanian Banking Association are pleased to organise an International Conference “MAKING GREEN FINANCE A REALITY IN THE BALTICS” on 3rd June 2022 in Vilnius.
In 2015, the European Union (EU) and its Member States signed the Paris Agreement to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change. One of its aims is to make finance flows consistent with a pathway towards low greenhouse gas emissions and climate-resilient development. Many economic activities in the EU are still carbon-intensive. The transition to a net-zero emission economy will require significant private and public investment. The achievement of the 55 % greenhouse gas emissions reduction target by 2030 will require additional annual investment of about EUR 350 billion in the energy system alone, according to the European Commission. The challenge is how to organise and finance a socially just and environmentally sustainable transition towards a climate neutral and resilient economy.
It is evident that the green transition and its financing suddenly became particularly urgent given the today’s geopolitical situation in Europe requires to accelerate transition process on our energy policies. Therefore, the Conference will gather policy makers from the EU institutions and Member States, particularly from the Baltic region, as well as private sector representatives and academia to discuss the role of the public sector in the new economy and the required developments, so that the financial sector can live up to our expectations. This will facilitate a dialogue among stakeholders and policymakers in order to grasp the underlying issues and formulate concrete ideas for advancing the needed reforms.
You are very WELCOME to join our conference, meet the like-minded, share your insights, and create a more collaborative future together.
