The File Defaults by Type module enhances file field management by allowing administrators to define multiple "types", identified by a label and with a default file assigned.
This module is especially useful when used together with collaborative tools such as Collabora Online. Default "template" files can be defined for each type (e.g "Text", "Spreadsheet") and used as starting point for collaborative editing.
Features
- Type definition: for each file field, allows to define a series of "types", identified with a label. Each type requires a default file to be attached.
- Default file widget: presents the user with a dropdown containing the types defined for that field instance. The user can choose one of them and attach it to the field.
- UI module: file_defaults_by_type_ui enhances the configuration experience through a page where users can set or replace files.
Upcoming development / ideas
- Add a new widget or modify the default file one so that a user can upload a custom fil, in addition to choosing one of the defaults provided.
- Allow to rename the default file being attached.
