Direct Access Barrister
Reagan Persaud
I understand the high tensions in private children disputes and I have experience of dealing with complex cases that may involve child custody issues, domestic violence, restraining orders, the involvement of children’s services, shared-care arrangements, parental alienation and international disputes. I also have experience of issues relating to where children should go to school and whether they should be allowed to medically transition as part of changing gender.
I have a particular interest in cases involving LGBTQ+ parties and, in particular, trans and gender identity issues relating to both children and adults in family proceedings.
I have been ranked as a leading barrister in the Legal 500 for a number of years:
Legal 500 2024 – ‘Reagan is a robust advocate who goes above and beyond.’
Legal 500 2023 – ‘Reagan is a force to be reckoned with – extremely capable and diligent. She is fierce, confident and fearless in court.’
Legal 500 2022 – “An impressive advocate with a strong eye for detail. She is calm in and out of the courtroom. Conscientious and compassionate, she builds very good rapport with clients and judges.”
Area of Law
Family
I practice in children law, which is sub speciality of family law.
As a result of being so niche in my practice, I have acted in complex cases where I have represented parents, children and wider family members in lengthy fact-finding hearings, dealt with contested hearings in the High Court and tricky final hearings involving ongoing criminal proceedings/allegations and and children witnesses when children have made allegations.
I have also appeared in the Court of Appeal in a successful appeal.
What sort of work do I do?
I deal with cases where child custody arrangements and/or major decisions for children (e.g. their schooling, their gender identity, etc.) require legal advice and/or representation in court. Anyone fighting to have a relationship with their child or minor relative and/or to have decisions made that are right for those children requires effective representation on these matters. I have profound experience in this particular area of practice.
Who do I work for?
Parents, grandparents, special guardians and anyone else who is seeking to have a relationship with their children and to have best interest decisions made for them.
