I like how it's moody and gloomy without being explicitly spooky like with ghosts or skeletons or that sort of thing, it's a friendly and inviting kind of dark. You don't see that sort of thing enough, and it's especially a surprise from an old postcard like this. This would totally be the post card I'd have chosen in 1912.
