Description
WOW my hand hurts.
A rather unconventional look at the House of Oropher - from left to right, a young Legolas, his grandfather Oropher, and his father Thranduil.
I was inspired after seeing 's picture of Oropher -> and realized that it would be adorable if a young Legolas had seen his grandfather as a role model and therefore borrowed his outfit designs.
I gave granddaddy up there a rusty palette because 1) it looks good 2) there's already too much green in the pic and I can't see Thranny or Legolas wearing anything else and 3) in my headcanon, easygoing Oropher left his councillors/etc to do most of the ruling of Eryn Galen (old name of Mirkwood) and went off on patrol, etc. and didn't really have to appear the part of a king.
In my headcanon I also see Oropher as being one of those really happy/jolly/jovial fathers, and Thranny as being a little embarrassed of his good old dad. So Thranduil wears much more formal garb.
Additionally, I found it quite interesting when I learned the other day that Thranduil actually spent a good portion of his child- and adult-hood in Doriath and knew Elwe (and presumably Celeborn, among others)...I'd been under the impression that he'd gone with Oropher and the other Sindar to Greenwood and had lived there most of his life. This information changed my impression of him considerably...
From the LotR Wiki: "Thranduil was the only son of Oropher. He was born sometime during the end of the First Age and lived in Doriath with Thingol and Melian. At the beginning of the Second Age, Thranduil lived in Lindon with Gil-galad while his father lived in Greenwood. After Oropher died in the war of Last Alliance, Thranduil went east to claim his inheritance and sometime before TA 1000 he established a kingdom in Greenwood the Great. "
I was going to make their outfits a little more decorative but I've already worked on this for too long (the inking gave me a lot of trouble....let's not even talk about the pathetic excuse for a background).
And yes, I'm aware that Oropher had most probably already been dead for a number of years before Legolas was concieved.
