Tintin - Kaitou Red

Random character design time! I had a cracking, total wtf dream the other night - a Tintin / Father Brown crossover (guess what I’d been watching the day before). When a notorious art thief called the Red Kaitou issues Tintin a public ‘catch me if you can’ challenge, Tintin and Father Brown team up to track him down. The whole dream was set in a very film-noir stylised 1939-1940s war-torn Europe, complete with campy Nazis hunting for occult treasures, sleazy speakeasies, femme fatales and Zeppelins. And good god I want to turn it into a comic. Most of all I just loved the team up of Tintin, Father Brown and Captain Haddock.

I can’t remember many details, but I know the thief turned out to be the character above who I’ve named Evelyn “Evie” Stark after the adventurer Freya Stark. Her brother, Gideon Stark, was a famous archaeologist who was murdered on a dig, leading Stark to investigate. Before her life as a professional thief, Stark was a gambling, cigar-smoking rogue and a master puzzle solver (her brother was the sensible one). She’s aided by a young Egyptian curator, Faissal (a prim, bookish lad who was secretly in love with her brother) and a Capuchin monkey called Lupin.

There was another character, a high born woman called Amara, who struck up a friendship/potential romance with Tintin, buuut I won’t go into that here because spoilers. Father Brown initially believes the Red Kaitou to be the mastermind criminal Flambeau, but when his theory is disproved he starts to worry that Tintin is becoming obsessed with catching the thief and uncovering a larger Nazi conspiracy.
