Chapter 15
“Welcome to the Capitol City!” Aaron joyfully announced from the passenger seat. Twisting around to look at our faces. No one smiled or even acknowledge his statement.
For the past 15 hours or so we have been in the same van. Aaron in the passenger seat, Tyler, Jefferson, and I are in the back seat. The rest of the group following behind in a separate van. All silent. Yeah, saying awkward is an understatement. But I guess that is more on us because we had gotten in another argument before leaving.
“They do not get to come with us. It is just to be you, and I am to escort you. That is final.”
“Yeah I don’t think so. If I go, they go. Simple as that.” I crossed my arms. Aaron’s eyes hardened and his jaw locked. Oh, angering him is fun! Why did I like this guy?
“No. That is final. They have no reason to tag along.”
Oh really….Uncrossing my arms. Hands fisted on my hips. One hip cocked. Time to party.
“Well, let me give you some reason. Tyler is my twin, so…he comes with my automatically. Jefferson is my BODYGUARD that YOU HIRED. So he comes. Lance has connections to the Stronghold Guild. The most respected and highest level guild in our world. And Randy is….oh yeah, a council member to that said guild! So. They come too.” A triumphant arm cross….and I’m done.
“Fine.” I vein popping, red faced, Aaron grunted out. So happy he sees that I’m right. “They can come. But the mutt stays.”
“Excuse me douche! I am not. A freaking. Mutt!” Tamara growls out. Her eyes darkened and her teeth elongated. Shit, wolfie is coming out. I back up and away into Jefferson. No body moved to stop Tamara as she began to stalk towards Aaron. I think we all secretly wanted her to kick his shit in.
But sadly before she got to close, Randy stepped in front of and wrapped the she-wolf in his arms. She instantly stilled and calmed down. Strange mate bondy thingy. And plus, even a werewolf can’t easily escape a Stronghold’s hold.
“Easy baby. Kick his ass later, I’ll help you. But right now. We need to all get going.” He whispered her in ear.
“No, she has no reason to come with.” Aaron said again. Angry from her disrespect. Oh get over it General Buttmuncher. Seriously, after the club. Screw him. I seriously do not like him. Any crush towards him. Gone. And he’s not that great of a kisser.
“She does have a reason to go.” Jefferson spoke up. Looking over at Lance who cleared his throat. Joining the discussion. Tyler moved over and put a hand on my shoulder. Staring Aaron down. Kill him, kill him with heat vision brother. We can get to the capitol without him. Doooo iiitttttt.
“She has connections still with her pack. Because even though her mate isn’t a wolf, they still keep her apart of it which means she is still connected to the pack link. So she can keep an inside tab on those who betrayed us. Her Alpha is encouraging it.” Lance spoke up. Walking over and standing beside Tamara and Randy.
Tamara fit perfectly under Randy’s chin if he leans down. And Randy was a tall dude. 6’8’’ remember. So she had to be about 5’8’’ or 5’9’’. Her blue eyes contrasted against her tan skin and her hair reached just around the middle of her back. Randy was stroking her hair as a trick of calming her down.
“Dammit.” Aaron hissed. Running his fingers through his shortened hair. “Fine! She comes to. Anyone else? Your cousins? Aunts? Maybe your Spanish lover?” Aaron hissed.
“Actually, I’m German.” Jefferson spoke up with a smirk. Aaron glared, and I’m sure if he had fire power, heat beams would come out of his eyes and vaporize Jeffery right there.
“We leave now.” Aaron said before storming out.”
And that is why this car ride has been awkward as well.
Tyler had my hand in his, resting on his lap. Jeffery had his arm around my neck acting as a pillow for me. Which came in handy when I passed out for a few hours. Aaron was never happy when he saw the affection going on between Jefferson and I. I didn’t care about it. Jefferson’s affection felt more welcome and natural to me than Aaron’s.
“Well, don’t you guys think it’s beautiful?” Aaron asked. Looking out the window to gesture to the city before looking back at us.
“Well, it’s a bit to Greek-Roman styled for me. I prefer the medieval feel that the guild has more. This seems too sanitary and stale.” Jefferson spoke up, earning glare from Dickhead McGee.
“I prefer modern.” Tyler answered honestly. Looking bored as he stared out the window.
“Abs? How about you?” Aaron asked me directly. First off, never ever call me Abs! I am not a muscle group of the human body.
“Well…I do like the Roman styled sometimes….” I trailed off, Aaron looking hopeful. “But my favorite style is the medieval period, like the guild. I think it’s because I grew up there with the guys that style just calls to me.” I end smiling. Aaron’s eyes harden and his jaw locks. He turns around without a word and stares out the windshield.
A chuckle comes from my right meaning Jefferson just found what I said funny. A warm soft kiss was pressed to my right temple. An immediate blush splashes just under my freckles. Glancing up at Jefferson I see him smirking and some soft and unreadable emotion in his eyes. He mouth’s me a ‘good job’ before locking eyes with Aaron in the passenger visor mirror.
“We’ll be dropping you off where you will be staying, tomorrow you will be taken to the Capitol building to meet some of my team, meet up with Nick, and meet some High Leaders. Are we clear?”
“Yes Sir!” We all said with sarcasm. I was just exhausted. This car ride was long. The emotional ride was draining me. I just wanted some hot drink of some sort and a bubble bath. Yes, that sounded so good!
“Right…” Ah crap he caught onto the sarcasm. Damn. Jefferson squeezed my shoulder. It caused a small smile to light up my face. Out of all of this, Tyler and Jefferson have been my rocks to lean on. Maybe Jefferson won’t turn out to be like an Aaron and actually cares about me. I know Aaron said he did but if you cared about someone you wouldn’t force yourself on someone you care about drunk. Or make them uncomfortable as much as he makes me at times.
A few more minute drive and we pull up in front of a large Temple looking building. Like the Greeks or Romans would make to worship their gods. Seriously what is this place?
“This is where you guys will be staying. Just down the street is the Capitol building. All the Leaders stay here when they visit for business. Let’s go get you all checked in.”
Once the car came to a stop Aaron got out first and opened our door. The others van stopped behind ours and Randy, Tamara and Lance came out. Looking tired and or bored. We climbed out of our van and gathered our luggage. Jefferson willingly carried mine before Aaron could, leaving the poor General awkward and angry. And Jefferson ego boost.
“Knock it off, he already wants to kill you.” I whispered to him. He only smirked. That smirk with his Mohawk was a dangerous look. And damn. It looked good. Wait, forget I said that. Ok?
“I’ll stop once he leaves what is mine alone.” Yeah defiantly forget that.
“I’m not yours.” I growl before following Tyler into the building.
“Yet, my dear. Yet.” Jeffery said behind me.
Ignoring him, I walked into this large building and greeted with 5 star hotel greatness. It was beautiful. I couldn’t truly stand all the white in this building. But it being all marble was beautiful. Gold accented almost everything. The Red carpets was a bold splash of color. It was just breath taking. I really can’t put it into words honestly.
I slowly followed the group as we all gawked at this entrance hall. There were people walking around in suits or military gear. From each race too, vampires where on laptops near the bar, werewolves were having a small meeting on some couches. There were Gifted just causally walking around. Even the lower races had people here too. A few Fae folk as well which was different for us to see. They don’t associate much in our Underground town.
A loud ding sounded and startled me. Gold Elevator doors opened and revealed a gold elevator waiting for us. All of us carefully packed into the elevator as Aaron hit the level 5 button. The doors shut and we gracefully glided up to the fifth floor. Once more it dinged and we were on another elegant looking floor.
“Alright, these are you keys,” Aaron each handed us key cards. Like a hotel has. “Some of you have to double up…But there are enough beds. Do not break anything. I’ll be back tomorrow. Be up by O seven hundred. If you’re late we are leaving without you.” And with that note he got back on the elevator and left.
Guess we pushed his buttons too much.
“Welp, who’s got what room?” Tyler spoke up. “I’m in 0548. Who else?” Randy rose his hand. I looked at my card and saw it was 0548. I looked up at Tamara who looked saddened not to be sharing a room with Randy.
“Tama, switch with me.” Her eyes lit up and eagerly switched cards with me. Now it was Lance, Jefferson and I in one room and Tyler, Tamara and Randy in the other. I see why Aaron did this but I’m sure he didn’t think we would switch. He wanted to keep Jefferson and me away from each other. Jealous idiot.
“Well, let’s get some food in us and some rest. Abi you gotta remember to put that cream on from Heidi, it will help that cut from scaring.” Randy told me. After the bar fight, Randy went to the guilds healer and got me a cream to help my cut heal. It wasn’t a big cut but any scar avoidance I will take.
“Right. I will. Come on guys. Lance! Cook me some dinner!” I commanded like a Queen. He smirked and swooped me up in his arms. Giggles erupted from all of us.
“Yes my Queen! Whatever she wishes for I will provide!” He began to trot off down the hall like a pony with me in his arms. Jefferson chuckled and followed behind. He opened the door for us once we found our room and Lance went straight to cooking me a large dinner. Sometimes it pays off being the groups little sister.
