Adamai 2.1
I looked out over the water. You could actually see the transition from polluted seawater to the incredibly, beautifully clean seawater around the island. It was places like this, I assume, that are why we haven’t completely cleaned the ocean. It would be kind of mundane if the whole ocean was this pretty. The boat passed into the light blue water and I could see the Island perfectly through the clean air.
Soon enough, the boat came to the dock. I stepped off the boat, across the dock and onto the sand. The sand felt good between my toes as I walked, but I was glad to get to solid ground. I had expected a guide, or maybe the captain to show me to the lab, but nothing. It wasn’t too big an issue, as the path through the trees was relatively straight and well kept… just wish I had shoes. I came up to the large hospital-like building.
I went to open the door, but stopped. Was coming here even a good idea? It’s really the only option we have for treatment. There’s just so much we don’t know about this “Miracle Doctor”, what with the speculation that he’s the same Overhaul that used to work for Julius the Immortal. I looked down at my bare arms; the purple spots had grown since I got on the boat, and even more on the boat ride itself. I clenched my fists, and made up my mind. If this “Miracle Doctor” was going to kill me, that would be a mercy at this point.
I pushed through the doors, and found a small waiting room with a secretary behind a desk opposite the entrance. There were other people sitting on the benches by the walls, all of them young like me. I walked up to the desk, which came up to my neck.
“Hello sweetie. Do you have an appointment?” She asked kindly.
“Uh, yeah. It’s under “Rei”.” I told her.
“Lets see here…” She typed the name into the computer. “Adamai?” I nodded. “Oh, a high priority patient. Go right in, sweetie.”
She pressed a button and the door to the side of the desk opened. She gave me a sympathetic look as I went through. Through one more door after that, was a typical doctor’s office. The three people inside looked at me as I stood at the entrance. The woman in armor went to draw her sword, the doctor held out his arm.
“He’s just another patient.” She stopped but kept glaring at me. “Close the door behind you.”
I stepped in and closed the door. The last person there was a young girl, maybe a little younger than me, who had a tail and animal ears. The doctor had been examining one of her legs, which were also animal-like. He stood and came over to me.
“Adamai, right?” I nodded. “Good, good… Let’s see what you’ve got.”
I showed him my arms, it was most prominent there.
“Hm, I’ve seen this before. It’s one of Seig’s, though it should be more along by now.”
“I’m doing that.” I said, and turned my arms so he could see my arm-blades. “I’m forcing heat from my body… that slows it down.”
“Such a good grasp on your power at such a young age. Impressive.” He patted the bench. I sat down next to the girl. “Chilling the infected person works to slow it down, but the only way to cure it is to remove the infected biomass.”
He turned to the lady in armor.
“I need to grab some meat from the locker. Can you keep an eye on them?” She nodded, and he left the room.
“So, you do stuff with heat?” The girl asked.
“Yeah. Kinda a lame power though.”
“No, no, it really isn’t! You could be outside in the summer and not get too hot. Or out in the snow and not be cold.”
“I guess. My family’s all got super cool fighting powers. These may look like knives but they don’t cut.” I said. “What can you do?”
“I jump.” She held out one of her paw/feet.
“Jump?”
“Yeah, Jump.” She nodded. “Multiple times.”
“Like, in a row?” She nodded. “That’s so cool! What’s the tail for though?”
“Lady Lucy is of the Tsu Clan.” The lady in armor said. “All of them have those traits.”
“Chess, I told you to stop calling me that, it makes me sound important.”
“But you are important. Your family is a great asset to the Justice Hunter organization.”
Then the doctor returned with a large cut of meat. He set it on the table next to me and knelt in front of me. He held out a hand and I gave him my arm.
“Is it anywhere else?”
“Just my arms and legs.”
“Ok then, that makes this easier. This may hurt for a moment.” He put both hands on mine, and I grit my teeth as pain shot up my arm. When I looked, my arm was gone.
“What-”
“Don’t worry. This is part of my power. If you look closely…” I looked closer, and there was almost like a skin-colored mist there. “Your arm is still there.”
With one hand he kept my arm steady, though I couldn’t feel anything, and with the other began brushing through where the purple spots were. Then, he made the meat turn into mist and brought a bit of it to my arm. Then, my arm was solid again. It felt like it did before I got sick!
“There, good as new. You think you can endure that a few more times?” I nodded. “Great.”
A good minute later, I was clean and he had returned to treating whatever Lucy was here for. It felt good not having to use my power 24-7. I let my blades retract into my arms and felt my balance return to normal. After the doctor gave me and Lucy a clean bill of health, we were about to exit into the lobby, when an explosion shook the building!
I thrust open the door to a wrecked lobby. There was a huge hole where the front door used to be, and a boy a little older than me stood in front of the other patients, generating a wall of sparks. The boy fell to his knees and the wall of sparks dissipated, showing who had done this: Pop-Rock, and Frenzy.
Me and Chess (the lady in armor) ran to them. I got the boy and pulled him back, while she attacked the two villains.
“How did they find me?” The doctor said.
“Do you know them?” The other boy asked.
“Yeah, that’s Frenzy. Julius has been trying to get me to heal her for years so she’ll be at full potential.”
“And the other one?”
“Pop-Rock. Probably here to keep ahold of Frenzy’s leash.”
“The only one here that stands a chance against the two of them is Chess.” I said. “And even she’s struggling.”
But then, I had an idea.
“Wait, Overhaul.”
“Yeah?”
“You added that meat to fill in the gaps left in my arms and legs… could you do that with entire people?”
“In theory… maybe. I’d need a third person to stabilize the fusion.”
“I could help.” Lucy said from behind us.
“And that makes three.”
Overhaul looked between the three of us.
“You really want to do this.”
I and the other kid nodded intensely. Lucy nodded less intensely, but had that same fire in her eyes.
“Ok then.” He pulled up his medical mask and with a small flick of his power flipped his coat inside out to the black side. He then cracked his knuckles. “Let’s make a Triman.”
