Technology - how does it work?

I'm finally starting to use my drawing tablet again and I'm quite out of practice. I have hardly any experience using digital programs to color/edit pictures so bear with me. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me critique, don't be shy, you won't hurt my feelings. It's the only way I can get better.I would really appreciate any tips and/or links to tutorials or guides on how to use GIMP (or any digital image software) to do lineart as well as color.
