Description
Dreams I had by the thousands
Daydreams of deed to do
A world to save and preserve
Poverty and disparity to resolve
Wars to end and hate to sooth
From the wits of my untested mind
Roaring blaze of zest of my youthful heart
And with my own bare hands I spun
A thread to weave into a canvas of hope
Wide I weaved the hopeful canvas
Stretching out with arms and fervor
This healing cloth to cover all the wounds
The people of this world had cut into themselves
Here I sit in my softly cushioned chair
Spent is all my youth and crazed momentum
The world was never mine to save, I reckon
For all the ailments and injustices endure
Yet, for the vanity and waste, it was worth it all
Upon my grey and wrinkled old man's head
I rest this crown of petty foolish dreams
Folded paper, scraps of twine and meager words
Wear it still with pride akin a wreath of triumph
Oh, you hopeful youths that gather now
Wielding signs of feisty worlds and slogans
Rally to a cause of just and timely changes
And hoist the flag that I must now pass on.
