Description
Something in the vein of this, for another one of my characters that still needed some work. The previous version of him that I've shown can be seen here:
Though my focus here wasn't on the coloring, I've altered his paint job into something that (in my mind at least) is more cohesive and consistent about its visual theme -- that being the "V" shape which repeats throughout the armor in various forms. I also removed some parts I deemed gimmicky or extraneous, such as the Commando-esque left shoulder I've used in previous versions. It had started to come across as perfunctory and I thought a full Gungnir set-up would make more sense for the character anyway; his armor is meant to be a sort of developmental platform the GUNGNIR project is using to test new technologies before they're rolled out to the mainstream. One of these is the Spartan Laser recharge dock, which draws power from the suit's fusion reactor to replenish the laser's energy capacity. It can be set up to recharge the M6 quickly, which drains the armor's shields completely for some time, or more gradually, which causes a persistent but less drastic shield drain.
And the Reach aesthetic? That's just my artistic preference, though story-wise I say it's because they're more rugged and handy for the whole prototyping process than the standard GEN2 ones. Even so, the armor isn't supposed to be a 100% conversion of the Reach Mark V; it's more of a hybrid of parts from Reach, Reach's concept art, and the Mark V[A] from Halo CE, with some GEN2 era ideas thrown in (such as the breaking up of the hip armor).
The extra bits in his shoulder in the second-last one are supposed to be ablative ceramic armor plates that I've entertained as an idea, though I'm not sure if I'll include them in the final version. Likewise with the drum pouches. I kind of like having the drums partially exposed. (The color bands on them indicate ammo types.)
I'll probably continue depicting him with different amounts of drums as time goes on, though I plan on keeping the two as the default. The last one, with the grenades, is probably his most "realistic" combat loadout. If I really wanted to go over the top with the ammo, he could also carry one extra drum (perhaps a larger one) on his butt plate. One thing I'm still not fully decided on is the knife placement, though I'm leaning toward the solution in the last one.
Permutation/gear list (for the rightmost version):

I like to be greedy when it comes to designing ammo pouches on Spartans, whatever way you can have a Spartan take up space by mounting ammo pouches on him, I'd take the option where you can get every pouch you can fit on them.
If there was a third pouch like the second last design, I'd be all for the mags being in pouches. I really like the pouch design in the second last one, but I know you'd probably want Sigurd to carry 3 drum mags.. Have you considered giving him an extra-wide dump pouch similar to modern military ones?
Otherwise, my favorite combination of these would be the far right side, but with the pistol mag-sized pouches where the knife should be from the one on the second from the left. Maybe if you want to keep the knife placed on the chest like the standard Reach knife placement, you could position the mags on the opposite side of the upper torso, a little higher up, if need be.
Also, the ceramic armor plating on the second last design are not a bad idea! Maybe you should try to design a set of ceramic plating as forearm guards?
