Description

The mammoth steppe was Earth's most expansive biome during the last 150,000 years of the Pleistocene. This unique habitat of frigid and dry grassland stretched throughout the Northern Hemisphere, from Spain to the Yukon Territory and supported an impressive ecosystem of megafauna comparable to today's Serengeti.
