It was all utterly unbelievable; the whole drama of it, the scene. You would at least expect some form of a pause, a short eerie silence as their bodies separated, seemingly, for good. When John yanked his hand back from that blaze of undying lights, he expected some intermission, some gap in the paragraph, some cut between scenes, before he fully realized and accepted that George was gone; whisked away amidst the flames, long and fat fiery arms groping at his bones, the sudden transition letting aloud a long, shrill, blood-curling scream: ‘JOHN!’ But nothing different had happened; the subtle way the wind blew his hair across his forehead...
