Fawnling for Christmas

Okay, please bear with me on this one, guys.

This gorgeous design was done by femalefred in one of the Christmas streams. I was lucky enough to snag a space but clearly hadn’t thought it through, because though I had an idea in mind for the colouring, my ideas on the character were vague at best.

Originally I was thinking Oakfern, as I’ve always had a fondness for it, but the more I thought it through, the less it seemed to fit. So I turned my ideas to Glenmore, which is where my mind is right now, but I’m not sold on that, either. Silverthorne is a possibility, but that’s never really been a huge interest for me, personally, and I already know Windborne well so…

Basically this one’s Kingdom and bloodline are still up in the air. Chances are she’ll wait in limbo until a herd opens anyway, if I go for anything but Glenmore XD. Because I like to tie in personality and backstory, she’s still a bit of a blank slate, though I feel like she could fit a few different characteristics.

I’m currently tossing up between two names: Aerynne (‘Air-in’) or Neala (‘nee-lah’). And at the minute she has a friend in a female southern Flying Squirrel (who’s real habitat and habits fit Glenmore very well), possibly to be named Fenna.

The incomplete profile is below and when I've got my life together, I'll finish it up so she can be registered. For now, enjoy the art and feel free to throw ideas at me

Appearance: Very slight and delicate with long fluted ears, compact body and feathering at her heels. Mane and tail are long with straight hairs and white markings are very slender. Has typical champagne green-gold eyes and speckled skin shows at the muzzle, around the eyes and between the legs. The only scars are tiny pinpricks, not even visible in her coat unless you’re really looking. There are a number on either side of her wither, from where Fenna usually sits.

Trinkets consist of spider-silk threads strung into the mane and tail.

Art wise, This took a few hours. I started it not long after the design itself was posted, already knowing some of what I was going for (light type does - go figure ). I just started sketching and it all kind of flowed from there, which was quite nice. I love how her face and head came out, and her tail. The body isn't perfect, but I can get over it. I just kind of threw some colours at the background, and used a texture brush for some of the ground she's standing on and my own brush for the leaf effect. The little critter in the corner is a Southern Flying Squirrel. She was referenced from a lovely photograph (and should this pan out, I'll be learning a lot more about the species XD).

So yep...enjoy my semi-character until I sort myself out
