Our furry story begins at a nighttime party at Mussel Beach in Waikiki, Hawaii, where a group of young people tell, around a campfire, the urban legend of a terrifying man-eating shark. However, a young hyena named Chrissie escapes from the party, without her boyfriend's supervision, to go swimming in the sea. After swimming towards a buoy, she is attacked by an unseen force, dragging her into the water with screams and finally Chrissie disappears from the surface.
The next morning, she is reported missing and shortly after, the police officer German shepherd David Bakalau finds Chrissie's mutilated remains on the beach. The coroner reveals that the hyena was attacked by a shark and that is why Bakalau suggests closing the beaches to bathers, but his proposal is rejected by the mayor of Waikiki, who fears that the news will ruin the imminent summer season, the main source of income for the tourist town. Consequently, the coroner decides to attribute Chrissie's death to a boat accident,
